Hi, friends! Andrea here. This 12x12 layout is one of those projects that feels extra special from start to finish. I created it using the Simple Vintage Junk Drawer collection, and it documents a treasured photo of my parents from when they were still boyfriend and girlfriend. This photo has always meant so much to me—it captures the beginning of their story, long before they became the incredible parents I admire today. They have always led by example, showing love, commitment, and kindness, and this layout is my way of honoring that legacy.

Layering was the heart of this design, and the Junk Drawer collection made it so easy to build depth and interest. I started with soft, neutral patterned papers to create a subtle background that wouldn’t overpower the photo. From there, I layered vintage-inspired elements like ledger pieces, tickets, labels, and ephemera behind the photo to create a foundation that feels collected and timeless—almost like flipping through old keepsakes tucked away in a drawer. Each layer adds texture and tells a small part of the story.
Once the main layers were in place, I focused on building clusters that would guide the eye around the page. Floral elements, butterflies, tags, and small decorative accents were tucked in and layered with intention, creating movement while still keeping the photo as the focal point. I love how the soft florals and vintage details balance the sentiment of the photo and reinforce the idea of memories being carefully preserved over time. The title and sentiment pieces were layered on top to add dimension and gently frame the story being told. I used a foam and a cardstock sticker for these.
This layout is a gift for my mom, and I plan to display it in a 12x12 shadow box so all the layers and textures can truly shine. Framing it this way turns the layout into a meaningful piece of home décor—one that celebrates love, family, and the beautiful memories that shape who we are. The Simple Vintage Junk Drawer collection was the perfect choice for this project, and I hope it inspires you to document your own treasured family stories and turn them into keepsakes meant to be displayed and loved.
